Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, a division of Health Care Service Corporation, is the state’s largest insurer, and the letters on your card determine how your plan works. PPO members can generally book directly with an in-network psychiatrist. HMO Illinois members select a primary care physician within a medical group, and specialty care is coordinated through that group, so a referral is typically part of the path.
